Kottinger Gardens Project

Kottinger Gardens Phase I:

Kottinger Gardens Phase 1, comprised of 130 affordable senior housing units with 1 manager's unit, completed construction of 51 of its units across 9 single-story buildings in Spring 2017, and the existing residents of the former Kottinger Place were welcomed back to their brand new homes shortly thereafter.  The remaining 80 units in the multi-story building was completed with construction in Fall 2017, and the property was fully leased up before the end of the year.  Kottinger Gardens Phase 1 welcomed its new residents as well as residents from Pleasanton Gardens, who temporarily relocated to Phase 1 in Fall 2017 while Kottinger Gardens Phase 2 (described below) is under construction.

Kottinger Gardens Phase II:

Construction is complete on the second phase of the redevelopment on the former Pleasanton Gardens site located at 251 Kottinger Drive.  The project developer, MidPen Housing Corp., owns and manages this new construction affordable senior housing development.  Kottinger Gardens Phase 2 includes 53 affordable senior housing units and 1 resident manager's unit, with 24 units in 5 single-story buildings, and an additional 30 units in two-story buildings.  In Fall 2017 the existing tenants of the former Pleasanton Gardens community temporarily relocated across the street to the completed Phase 1 (described above).

A Kottinger Place Task Force appointed by the City Council worked with MidPen Housing Corporation, a nonprofit affordable housing developer, on the plans for the 185 new senior apartments on the two sites.

The Planned Unit Development (PUD) plan for the project was approved by the City Council in May 2014 (Agenda Report, Approved PUD Plans).  The necessary HUD disposition approvals and financing were secured for Phase 1 of the project (130 unit Kottinger Place site) and construction commenced in April 2016.

Current residents of the two complexes had priority for the new units.
