COMMUNITY SATISFACTION SURVEY RESULTS RELEASED

96 Percent Rate Pleasanton as Good to Excellent Place to Live

 PLEASANTON, Calif. — Pleasanton is pleased to announce the results of its most recent community survey. Conducted between June 4 and June 10, 2017, the phone survey was the sixth of its kind for the City since 1995 and was conducted by Fairbank, Maslin, Maullin, Metz & Associates (FM3), a public opinion research and strategy group.

“It’s such an incredible benefit to check in with residents as we have every few years and get their feedback on what matters most. We aim to deliver what members of this community need and want, but we can only do this if we hear directly from all of our residents. Our goal is to sustain the highest possible standard for Pleasanton residents,” said Nelson Fialho, City Manager for Pleasanton, adding “and if there are some gaps in service, this survey helps us identify those.”

Pleasanton is a full-service City, providing for such public services as police and fire, the library, recreational activities, and parks and open space development and maintenance. The City also provides the equally important delivery of water and sewer services, as well as traffic engineering.

“We knew that by having a long-term view of resident feedback and input, that would help us determine our path forward over the years. Once we established a baseline in 1995, that foundation has enabled us to benchmark our progress every few years or so. Just as employees receive performance evaluations, so too should the City, and we are pleased with the results and can focus our efforts more closely on areas for improvement.”

600 residents were interviewed in a statistically-valid survey that reflects our community in an effort to determine overall resident satisfaction and public opinion of City programs and services. In addition, quality of life questions were asked, as well as a ranking of top concerns. Customer service interface issues, such as professionalism, courtesy and knowledge were included as well.

Key findings of the survey indicate that overall attitudes about Pleasanton remain overwhelmingly positive and have changed little, with two thirds of residents saying Pleasanton is an excellent place to live. 94 percent or respondents said they believe the City is an excellent (71 percent) or good (23 percent) place to raise children and 98 percent feel very or somewhat safe.

Regarding those things that concerned residents, the top three concerns were too much growth and development (22 percent); too much traffic on City streets (16 percent) and the cost of housing and its affordability (12 percent). On the matter of City programs and services in general, 85 percent indicated the City does an excellent to good job.
