Valerie Arkin

Councilmember

Valerie Arkin was elected at large to the Pleasanton City Council in November 2020. Prior to being elected to the City Council, she served as a Board Trustee for the Pleasanton Unified School District for 12 years, during which she was Board President three times.

Councilmember Arkin is a member of the City-School District Liaison Committee, a collaborating body designed to share resources and improve ways for the City and the school district to work together on behalf of the community. From 2006 –2014 Arkin was a member of the Pleasanton Library Commission.

As a Pleasanton resident for 27 years, Councilmember Arkin has been an active community volunteer for local schools, non-profit organizations including the Pleasanton Cultural Arts Council board and YMCA board of managers and has served on various community task forces.

Councilmember Arkin earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Science from California State University, Northridge and a Masters of Business Administration degree from Cal Lutheran University.

Councilmember Arkin lives in Pleasanton with her husband Brian and are the parents of three children. When she is not working or volunteering, she enjoys spending time with family, reading and traveling.
